How Dave Delaney Offers New Business Networking Secrets from the Comforts of Home

In this interview with Founder and CEO of Delaney Digital Marketing Consulting Dave Delaney, he starts off by expressing his gratitude for his family. As it was Friday the day this podcast was recorded, he was quite excited about getting to spend the weekend with his wife, nine-year-old son and eight-year-old daughter. Dave admits that he has made his children part of his life long before they entered into the world, talking about them on his previous podcasts and laughing at how their names combined sound like salmonella.

About Dave’s Work and Daily Schedule

Author, keynote speaker and entrepreneur, Dave been a marketer for over a decade and one of the pioneers of social media marketing and business networking. Through Delaney Digital Marketing Consulting, he offers clients full digital marketing audit to ensure the effectiveness of their online marketing and promotions. He also coaches on the best practices and strategies of social media; his latest venture Futureforth helps LinkedIn users maximize the results of their efforts. Despite his hectic schedule, though, Dave takes the time to host and produce New Business Networking Radio, a weekly podcast that interviews business executives, community leaders and experts on professional networking.

Discussing his work, he starts off with his book ‘New Business Network’. In this publication, he uncovers tools and techniques that allow individuals to network both online and offline. Published around the end of 2013, the book was picked by Que Publishing, a major feat as many work-at-home authors need to self-publish to have their work out there.

Next, Dave explains his typical day-to-day routine, which is usually littered with different activities. In addition to tending to the digital marketing needs of small and medium sized businesses, he takes the time for speaking assignments. He has especially been invited to be a keynote speaker at different events, explaining to the audience what he knows about networking, its importance, and how it can benefit others. He even gives Shawn a few tips on how to successfully network with a group of new people.

Dave Highlights the Realities of Working from Home

Dave reveals that he faces different challenges while trying to work from home. One of his biggest challenges is time. To find a way around it, he tries to be more productive with time, setting both personal and business goals. Another issue Dave points out is his loneliness. Due to his social nature, he tends to go on many coffee dates or lunches. He has even resorted to co-working spaces, but decided not to rely on them because he has to commute. Besides, he feels more at ease at home since he doesn’t need to dress up.

Regardless, Dave doesn’t regret his decision to leave his previous employer. Aside from not meeting the company eye to eye on different aspects, he always wanted to be an entrepreneur. Inspired by many peers who have been doing this for a while, he decided to offer his expertise and services to those usually conned by self-proclaimed specialists.

Wrapping up, Dave announces that he has a surprise coming up in February, but it was actually related to the launch of Futureforth, a company which teaches businesses how to make the most of LinkedIn. Finally, he provides four valuable tips for future Home Office Dads, which are:

1. Make sure to have money saved in case your idea doesn’t work.

2. Thought it may be hard at first, manage your time. Especially be open to tweaking your plans and don’t neglect family time while planning your schedule.

3. Keep track of your business using different tools. For instance, you can set emails to reappear in your inbox if they weren’t replied to.

4. Don’t do everything yourself. Hire someone to pick up the slack or cover your weaknesses.
