“At this crucial time in our lives, when everything is so desperate, when every day is a matter of survival, I don't think you can help but be involved.” ― Nina Simone
*THIS IS A RE-EDITED RERELEASE OF SZN 2 EP 5*
Welcome back to our super fun and cute podcast! This week we have our Entertainment Review where we talk about some music/movie/artist that has improved our lives. Lesly and J are talking about the one, THE ONLY... NINA SIMONE!!! Icon. Legend.
Honestly, there’s so much we can say about her. Nina Simone (Eunice Kathleen Waymon) was born on February 21, 1933 and sadly passed away on April 21, 2003. Nina Simone, was an American singer, songwriter, musician, arranger, and civil rights activist. Her music spanned a broad range of musical styles including classical, jazz, blues, folk, R&B, gospel and pop. She has inspired SO MANY artists and her impact can be seen in music today.
In this episode we discuss her early life, how she got into performing and how she got her stage name. We also discuss the Netflix Film: “What Happened Miss SImone?”, our reactions to the documentary, some of our favorite songs and how much Nina means to us.
BTW - We started a new thing on the podcast where we share something with our audience that is relevant to the episode. It can be a podcast, tv show, music, book or anything! It was inspired by the lovely ladies of the podcast "Thanks 4 Your Concern." We call it our DOUBLE FEATURE because there's two of us and we wanna feature some sh*t. ☺ Our Double Feature for this episode is: Cardi B’s new music video UP and our girl CUPCAKKE! Support black women rappers!
Did we mention we made a SPOTIFY Playlist? Check it out! New playlist every month!
We had so much fun making this episode, as we always do, and we are happy we can introduce you all to Nina Simone. So if you haven’t heard of her until now, hope you’re a big fan!
