This week Alex & Ryan talk with producer and director J Miles Dale, including a discussion of his choice of "B-Side": Brian De Palma’s 1974 movie “Phantom of the Paradise.”

Academy Award-winning producer J. Miles Dale has been making movies and television programs for over 35 years. His productions have been honored with numerous awards including 17 Oscar nominations and 8 Golden Globe nominations. In 2018, he won the Best Picture Oscar for The Shape of Water. Currently, Dale is Executive Producer on two Netflix Original series: Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, a celebrated genre-bending anthology series; and Sex/Life, a steamy chart-topping series that garnered over 67 million views in its season one debut. Partnering with Walt Disney Animation Studios and Lighthouse Immersive, Dale is Creative Director for the Disney Animation: Immersive Experience, which is opening throughout North America and Tokyo in 2023 in celebration of Disney’s 100th anniversary. In feature films, Dale is best known for producing critically acclaimed supernatural thrillers with longtime collaborator auteur filmmaker Guillermo del Toro. His latest film was del Toro’s 2021 Nightmare Alley, starring Bradley Cooper and Cate Blanchett, which was nominated for four Academy Awards including Best Picture. He also recently produced Antlers, a supernatural horror film directed by Scott Cooper and released by Searchlight Pictures. Over the years, Dale has established a proven track record to navigate between critically acclaimed and commercially appealing projects. He produced an expansive breadth of work from Edgar Wright’s romantic action comedy Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, to the cult buddy comedy Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle.

Alex Keledjian is the creator of Project Greenlight, a documentary television series where executive producers Matt Damon and Ben Affleck gave first-time filmmakers a chance to direct their first feature film. In 2018, Alex wrote and directed the film High Voltage starring David Arquette and Luke Wilson.

Ryan Gibson

Ryan Gibson is an Emmy-award winning producer of such films as the critically acclaimed Woe and the upcoming film Slotherhouse. He has worked for over twenty years in all aspects of film development and production.

MAX launched the latest season of the Emmy-nominated TV series Project Greenlight from executive producer Issa Rae and Miramax Television in July 2023.
