3 Let’s Set Up Your Business
- Choosing a company name
- choose a name that defines your business quickly
- stay away from personal names that are more ego driven than business smart
- unless you have "Dog Walking" and/or "Pet Sitting as part of the name
- Women's names seem to work best
- Highlight the business; minimize the name
- Dog Walking and Pet Sitting is more important than the actual name
- Important for magnetic signs on car
- log in to your state’s Corporation Commission
- confirm that your company name is unique
- if not, you must choose another name
- Apply for and immediately receive an IRS EIN
- log onto IRS website

- DO NOT use non-IRS websites to apply for EIN
- After completing the EIN application, EIN will be generated immediately
III. Legally organize your company
- log onto IRS website for discussion about business structures

- Sole Proprietorship
No legal filings; no special requirements
You have no legal protection if you're ever sued
- I do not recommend remaining a Sole Proprietor
- C-Corporation
- used by large companies with stockholders
- double taxation
- strict business requirements
- not suggested for our type of business
- S-Corporation
- can be used by small businesses
- pass-through taxation
- still has strict business requirements
- Limited Liability Company (LLC)
- perfect for small businesses
- pass-through taxation
- not very strict business requirements
- ideal for our type of business
- file with your state’s corporation commission
- can pay LegalZoom or IncFile.com to do this
- easy to do by yourself
- log onto your state’s corporation commission
- located page to apply for LLC
- answer all questions
- must have legal company name handy
iii. afterwards pay application and filing fee
- use credit or debit card
