The last time that Lisa Hilton visited "Hybrid Jazz", we discussed her "Kaleidoscope." That was several albums ago. She DOES like to release music frequently. She can't help to share it because it's obvious that creations POUR out of her! This is a strong woman with an early calling. Lisa's great Uncle was a Dutch piano virtuoso - and he influenced her profoundly. She was on her stool at 8 - orchestra and band experiences followed - and our guest was performing scores in high school. What was an intiial disappointment for her in college turned out to be one of her truest blessings in life. Not finding adequate courses to take in music, Lisa opted for a focus on Art. She intrinsicially understood the connection between sound and seeing. She has referred to "painting" her compositions as well as "sculpting." Before or after her pivotal journey in these educational ears, Lisa was inspired by a wide swath of composers. Jazz for sure - Basie, Duke, Monk. But also Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson. And the Classical heroes that she studied, both traditional and very contemporary. Because of her serene manner, glorious stylings, and superb leadership skills, this award-winner has gained the respect of an array of living legends. She has worked alongside of MANY. Besides those in the spotlight, this generous mentor seeks those who do not GET the spotlight. She has a heart for working with the visually impaired. Coming from a small town on California's Central coast, Lisa may feel community more than many. Her love of nature is ever-present. Her background may have paved the way for that passion, too. It all translates into extraordinary music, compared to Jazz and Classical Icons. Three tracks from "Oasis" will convince you: Lisa Hilton is RARE.
