Another day, another attempt to humble an Uppity Black Woman. Before we assess the constructive discharge of Dr. Claudine Gay (and yes, Sis was constructively discharged, even though she resigned from her role as President of Harvard), join me in celebrating the 1 year anniversary of "I Can't Fux With You - Confessions of an Uppity Black Woman." How quickly the days fly by! Thank you to my listeners, my diehards, my supporters. I look forward to continued growth, learning, and spreading the word of all the sh*t this #ubw ain't fuxing wit no mo'! Now, to what I can only describe as the default response whenever a Black Woman is seated in a position of power in this here America, (you could be the night manager at McDonalds, if you are a Sister, there will be problems). Dr. Claudine Gay's resignation, was a re-education for many. I say re-education because on as a conscious level, we know that our accoutrements do not protect us from the insidious racism that permeates the cells of this "great" land. The accoutrements are no match for the seething hatred that is exposed when a Black Woman has the audacity (the audacity!) to be Black, be a Woman, and lead. Dr. Gay's departure was the end result of a targeted attack to knock an Uppity Black Woman off a perch. Dr. Gay's particulars are in a word "Excellent." She is the avatar for Black Excellence and the futile effort that "Excellent" Blacks put in to get to the top, only to be knocked down because they are Black. When the people continue to play in our faces (and play in our faces, with straight faces) what responsibility do Excellent Black Women have to rally the troops and say, enough - we will no longer "excellent" ourselves to our detriment, we will no longer "excellent" ourselves to the grave. The question we all have to sit with is, if we are no longer "excellent-ing" what the fux is it that we are doing?
