In this episode, we get honest about the problems people can bring with their opinions, why agreeable people tend to collect opinions, and how to filter out and disqualify the harmful ones.

We've been conditioned to hold people's opinions in high regard. It can feel prideful or mean to discount them quickly. However, opinions can get us off track and slow us down. They can be extremely discouraging and even harmful. And to be honest, there are so many opinionated people who are ready to give them out free of charge, we need some way of calming down the noise so that we don't lose our own values and ideas in the process!

Women who want to learn and make informed, sound, wise decisions, succeed in their personal and professional lives, and enjoy meaningful relationships often seek out opinions. They receive unsolicited opinions graciously with an open mind. And we often discredit our own experiences, wisdom, and smart thinking in the process.

We often forget this key fact: People are not very smart. It's true!

It's also really important to realize that not all advice comes from a genuine place. We need to be real about it, because whether it's intentional or not, many times people are mixing in their own insecurities, jealousy, frustration, short-comings, and competitiveness with their opinion.

If you care about "getting it right", you may fall into the trap of seeking, attracting, and accepting so many opinions that you stop trusting yourself. I've been there time and again.

Today's episode is a wonderful reminder to us all that we probably know more than we are realizing. We are wiser than we give ourselves credit, and it isn't uncaring, prideful, or close-minded to trust our own opinion.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this episode. What can you say to that over-engaged family member or co-worker the next time they offer an unhelpful opinion? Would you use my line or come up with your own?
