In this episode I’m chatting with Chester Santos, aka. The International Man of Memory.

After completing a Bachelor of Psychology, a Masters of Software Engineering and putting in a few years at law school, Chester was working as a Software Engineer in Silicon Valley when he was flipping through the TV channels and saw a segment on ABC’s 20/20 program about the US Memory Championships. Thinking he had a pretty good memory, Chester looked further into the competition and quickly realised he would need to start training his brain and train he did going on to become the 2008 US Memory Champion!

Chester is widely regarded as the world’s leading memory expert appearing on CNN, ABC, PBS, NBC, CBS, BBX, BBC and the Science Channel as well as in print media such as the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, San Francisco Chronicle, Washington Post and TIME Magazine. The 2020 documentary film David Vs Goliath also features Chester and his memory training skills.

As the personal memory coach to celebrities, politicians, professional athletes and high-powered executives, Chester has taught millions of people in over 30 countries how to train their brain.

In addition, Chester’s keynote speaking credits include TEDx with some of the nation’s most highly regarded professors and scientists, the prestigious Talks at Google program featuring “the world's most influential thinkers, creators, makers and doers”, and the International Festival of Brilliant Minds in Puebla that had him speaking to an audience of 5000 people along with Nobel Prize winners, Pulitzer Prize winners, and other luminaries.

We discuss how the mind works and Chester shares some techniques to train your brain, improve your memory and make yourself more interesting! Being known the world over for remembering and recalling hundreds of names at every presentation he gives, I ask Chester what happens when he forgets!

Chester takes listeners through a quick exercise to demonstrate how his memory techniques work and how they can be applied. Do the exercise yourself and let me know how you go.
