Benchmarketing

Meaning. Benchmarks. We love them, we hate them. Benchmarks supposedly help us choose the best CPU, graphics card, SSD, or other piece of hardware. By the same token, the flood of benchmark charts, tables, and walls of text make it hard for normal users to figure out what's going on. Eric and Loyd discuss where benchmarks are today, their complexity, and the search for the elusive (and probably mythical) single metric of performance.

Tools. Loyd grinds coffee. Loyd makes coffee. Loyd drinks coffee. Eric looks on in bemusement, since he's not a coffee drinker. Loyd talks about his coffee tools, and it's not complicated. Loyd just wants a good cup of joe, but is no coffee junkie. We also talk about Google's new OnHub router.

Fun. Loyd gives Eric an update on his request for relatively portable card and board games to take when he travels with his family. Games like Love Letter, Flip City, and similar games can give you a complete gaming experience in small packages that take little time. Loyd also talks about Arena of the Planeswalkers, the spiritual successor to Heroscape.

On the PC game side, Loyd dives into the new deep roads DLC for Dragon Age: Inquisition and the Left4Dead characters travelng back to WW2.

About this Podcast

Improbable Insights is a technology, gaming and general geekery podcast. We tr to be short and pithy, splitting the podcast into three segments. David Bryant talks about Rocket League, the insane (and fun!) new game combining RC cars and soccer.

Meaning

We dig deep into a single technology, gaming, or geek-related topic, trying to parse the meaning and implications that underlies the hype and general noise surrounding these topics. The meaning segment always focuses on a single topic.

Tools

As Eric puts it, this is about what’s in our bag. What do we actually use, why we use it, and the reasons we chose it. These are not reviews as much as experiential discussions revolving around day-to-day use. Would we get it again? Why or why not? We don’t just talk about the stuff we like, but also what we came to dislike over time.

Fun

Here’s where we talk about what’s entertaining us, ranging from tabletop games, video and computer games, media, movies, books, and anything else that can amuse, entertain, or occasionally enrage us.
