Seven teams have a chance to play in Houston

Super Bowl LI is less than a month away. This week the Divisional Playoffs will take place in the cities where Wildcard Weekend was only an image on a glowing screen. It’s wide open going in this week’s games. All teams are hoping to play their way to Houston, and all teams have a chance with the exception of Houston’s team.

Let’s talk about this.

The Houston Texans beat up a dejected and depleted Oakland Raiders in Houston during Wildcard Weekend. If anything, the Raiders’ loss solidified Derek Carr’s spot at the top of the MVP voting. With Derek Carr taking snaps, Oakland is a force. Without Derek Carr, they are an unfulfilled promise.

Fear not Raider Nation, the silver and black will go deep in to the playoffs next year with a healthy DC at QB.

Here’s the positive for the Texans: they’ll have plenty of time to regroup for the 2017 season. Is there anyone out there who seriously thinks Houston can win at New England?

The nerves of January

It’s like the Ides of March. Beware the nerves of January. OBJ felt the nerves of January at Lambeau. Matt Moore felt the nerves of January in Pittsburgh. Unlike OBJ, Matt performed despite his nerves (and hits). The Lions felt the nerves in Seattle.

The bye week is great to rest up and focus, but it has to make some teams nervous watching teams like Pittsburgh, Green Bay and Seattle get on a roll.

Are those three teams contenders or are they the recipients of weak opponents? Whatever the reason the In the Pocket team thinks Atlanta, Dallas and Kansas City all have reasons to sweat in the depths of winter.

Kansas City faces a scary Pittsburgh team, but they are probably the least nervous. The Chiefs have a great offence, an underrated defence and a true home-field advantage. Pittsburgh needs another game of the B’s going off to win in KC.

Atlanta will get a motivated and angry Seahawks team. It’s a team that has suffered from consistency all season. They have shown on numerous occasions that they can really stink it up on the field. They are the NFL’s version of the little girl with the curl right in the middle of her forehead. When they’re good, they are really, really good. When they’re bad? Well…they scored 5 points against the Buccaneers in Week Twelve.

Dallas is untested. They are confident. They are talented. They have a dominant group of fatties (aka Offensive Line). They should be nervous though. Not scared. Just a little jittery about the prospect of a “burn your fingertips if you touch them they’re so hot” Packers team. A-A-Ron is performing at a freakish level. And his fatties made the New York Giants defence (which is a great defence) look like amateurs.
