POLITICO’s California Playbook breaks down new laws and other political updates. Getting an Election Literacy 101 as Election Day approaches. Finally, a concert exploring the history of jazz performs at The Sofia.

POLITICO’s California Playbook

Gov. Gavin Newsom has been busy in recent weeks, signing dozens of bills - including ones addressing artificial intelligence and in vitro fertilization - while vetoing a number of others. ‘Jazz: The Evolution of an American Artform’

A celebration of the different subgenres of jazz is taking place in Sacramento this week, from the early 1920s sound of Louis Armstrong in the 1920s, to swing and bebop, to the avant-garde jazz and jazz fusion of the 1960s. Jazz musician and educator Jacam Manricks gives a preview of “Jazz: The Evolution of an American Artform,” which will be performed this Friday, Oct. 4 at The Sofia.
