Since the AdventHealth Hope & Healing Center opened in 2021, drug-related overdoses and poisonings in Seminole County are down 20% and fatalities have been reduced by 9%, but there’s a long way to go, according to Lemma.
“The only way to address this is in the medical space. You cannot arrest your way out of this problem,” Lemma said. “Up until this point, many people would receive adequate health care services in separate spaces. Finding a convenient, holistic way to do that was incredibly important.”
