Mark Minard is an entrepreneur, speaker, best-selling author of The Story Of You, podcast host of Elevating Beyond, Owner & CEO of Dreamshine and lives in Columbus Ohio.

We opened our conversation today talking about growth: As you grow and move out of your comfort zone it can sometimes feel quite lonely, however, over time you will meet other people going through the same thing because phenomenal attracts phenomenal.

Like Minds

Like minded people just seem to find each other. It’s these connections that make you stronger, and it's important to nurture them and not take them for granted.

You need to learn from what others have done before you, and you need to tune into where others are getting their information. What are they reading, what are they listening to and what events are they attending?

Information Is Far More Assessable

In today’s modern world information is far more assessable, but there are two sides to this, and you need to be extremely careful.

On one side there are people with vast business expertise and experience, and they openly share what they have learnt. On the flipside there are a lot of people that have hit a high level of social media status, who are now speakers and bestselling authors, but they’ve never actually done it themselves.

The main concern is when they do a Q & A session and their answers are all theory based, there is no real-world experience. They will answer a question with…here is my five ways to…

They never give real examples because they have none to give.

Elevating Beyond Business

Mark started the Elevating Beyond Business Program because people need advice from real business people, not just from people with high levels of social status.

A Doing Statement

A doing statement is far more important than your mission statement. What are you doing or planning to do right now to progress your business or career? There have been a lot of large companies with mission statements, and in the end, they were corrupt, even though their mission statement said integrity.

Finding Your WHY Is Not Important

How do I find my WHY is a common question, and Mark says just keep doing and following your gut, and you’ll find your purpose. Your purpose cannot be forced upon you; it will come as you go through different seasons in life.

January First

There’s no point starting new goals when you haven’t finished your goals from last year. January 1st is just another day on the calendar. It's okay to use January 1st to reflect on the previous year and to reset, but don’t use it as an excuse to give up on your goals from last year.

Seasons of Sacrifice

As an entrepreneur, you need to be obsessed with what you’re doing, but you also need to be aware when you’re doing too much.

As the leader, everyone in your business is watching you, so if you’re showing them all you care about is work and not your family, you’re telling them that’s what’s important.

There will be times throughout the year when you need to sacrifice time with your family and be at work because it’s busy. These busy times are called Seasons of Sacrifice, but this should never become the norm.

You Need To Communicate

It’s important to inform your family knows when you’re busy and to let your business know when it’s family time. It all comes back to working on your communication skills.

If you spend too much time with your family and neglect your business, your business will fail, and if you spend too much time at work, your relationship with your family will fail.

From day-to-day, week-to-week and month-to-month your life-wheel may be out of balance, but over a period, like a year, it should balance itself out.

Recharge

Sometimes we need to unplug completely and take time off to remove all the junk from your brain, and by doing this, you will create more space to take in new information and be more creative.

Systems are essential as they allow you to take time off.

Twist It & Follow Your Gut

When you take in information from events, podcasts, books, business coaches, etc. you need to put your twist or style on what you have learnt. Don’t become a pure carbon copy.

No football team will win without a coach, but it’s important to take the game plan and modify it to what is happening on the field. You need to make decisions based on what is in front of you.

You need to follow your gut because 9/10 times it will be right.

You must go through terrible on the way to becoming great - Mark Minard.

Monday Morning Tip

Make sure you smile and if you have a team make sure you say good morning to everyone. You need to have intentional gratitude. Be grateful that you have a business. It may not be where you want it to be right now, but it’s so much further ahead of where it was when you began.
