Thomas Hardy was best known for his country tales of sadness " Tess of the Dubervilles" , "Far From the Madding Crowd". He lived in the South West part of England in the 19th Century and also wrote a lot of poetry. This one is published in "Selected Poems" by Thomas Hardy, edited by Andrew Motion a former English Poet Laureate. A Poet Laureate is an honorary position appointed by the current monarch. The US poet laureate is appointed by the Librarian of Congress. Our history is always fascinating!
