Ridin’ down the road with Virginia Proctor,

Eighty-five years old and still drives like hell,

Not much moss has grown on this here lady,

And will it ever? Only time will tell.

She was born in Glencoe, Illinois,

Named Virginia Belle though part tomboy,

Raised on love and halibut liver oil.

Been driving since she hit fourteen,

Some journalism in between,

From Baraboo Wisconsin to the Myrtle Creek Mail.

(Refrain:) Good morning, Canyonville, how are you?

Been here for so long she’s your native dame,

She’s the matriarch they call Virginia Proctor,

It’s been 85 long years and she’s still the same.

Walkin’ down the street with Virginia Proctor,

If it weren’t for that knee you’d eat her dust,

“Slow motion” ain’t in her vocabulary,

Though some would say it’s an octogenarian must.

Met Robert down in southern Cal,

There was chemistry between guy and gal,

Got married, lived in Sunland for awhile.

But Douglas County called them north,

When the war was over they set forth,

And built a home just west of town a mile.

(Refrain)

Swimmin’ in the sun with Virginia Proctor,

Finally found a place where she slows down,

Sidestroke her preferred aquatic manner,

Lets her eyes soak in the scenery all around.

Though with husband gone and children grown,

It’s hard to say that she’s alone,

There’s Historical Society, church, and Eastern Star.

Though with none to care for still around,

It’s Tuscany where this woman’s bound,

So watch out for an old lady in a fast Italian car!

(Refrain)
