Many decades ago this verse really spoke to me. "When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek." Psalm 27:8.

It came during a time when I was in what felt like a never ending tornado of troubles and heart-melting trials. I was having trouble praying, not knowing what to touch on first because there was so much coming at me all at once.

Every time I tried to pray, something else would come rushing up within me that I was facing that was frightening, so it would overtake what I was praying. This went on and on.

I was praying all over the place until I felt that I prayed for nothing at all.. I was worn out from "trying to pray."

I know the Lord magnified that word to me long ago. He was getting at my heart. He wanted me to pray from my heart only and not to fear what I sounded like.

It was then and for the rest of my life that I have always and only approached the Lord in prayer that begins in my heart.

God is looking into your heart every second of your life. He wants you to cast away all kinds of "ways" of trying to pray. In a sense, cast away your 'Blind Bartimaeus cloak," get rid of it, and run to him and ask like him. Then leave it behind.

You will find that for the rest of your life all of your heart-felt prayers to the Lord will be answered to your heart's grateful joy.

"The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the LORD that seek him: your heart shall live for ever."

~ Proverbs 22:26.

"We knew our Father. There was no need for persuasion. Would not His Fatherliness be longing to give us our hearts' desire (if I may put it so)? How could we press Him as though He were not our own most loving Father?"

~ Amy Carmichael
