To Martha Awojbi, dismantling the imperialist, white supremacist, capitalist, cis heteropatriarchy is the only thing that matters. From being held by Maya Angelou to street fundraising to anti-racism training Martha takes no bullshit in the sector. We try and understand why the non-profit sector is stuck behind a wall of buzzwords and fails to get to the root of the problem, white supremacy. Join us alongside the dreamers, the spreadsheet lovers, the grumpy people, the evaluators, and everyone else who needs to get involved in dismantling white supremacy. Let's start here.

Martha Awojobi, is the Founder, Director, and fearless leader of JMB Consulting. After spending ten years working in the charity and philanthropic sector, she was disappointed (like us!) to find the potential of transformation harboured oppression and racism. Martha now works in colation with organisations that are serious about liberation and also curates the #BAMEOnline series. A series that helps people of colour navigate the non-profit sector. You can find out more about Martha's work here.

Things we mentioned:

  1. Book: What white people can do next by Emma Dabiri
  2. Civil rights activist: Maya Angelou
  3. Learning: BAME Online Scholar for radical anti-racist learning
  4. Author: Toni Morrison
  5. Lawyer and Activist: Mari Matsuda
  6. Quote: "The Master's tools will never dismantle the master's house" by Audre Lorde, 1979.
  7. Book: Race to the Bottom: Reclaiming anti-racism by Azfar Shafi and Ilyas Nagdee
  8. Lawyer, Politician, and rights activist: Stacey Abrahams

Trigger Warning: Martha, Teia, and Lauren discuss instances of racism and frequently refer to white supremacy. This can be triggering and hard to hear. If you need support, these organisations can help:
