June 19, 2023 ~ Institute for Strategic Dialogue Senior Analyst Aoife Gallagher tells Guy, Lloyd, and Jamie about a new report that suggests YouTube’s algorithm is recommending misogynistic content to young users. The study, which was generated through an analysis of eight US-based YouTube accounts with varying owner demographics, also found that the platform was promoting videos related to suicide, self-harm, and sexual content. Gallagher says that the findings highlight the inadequacy of YouTube’s age verification and parental control measures, particularly in the U.S., and calls for more stringent global actions to safeguard young users.
