This week’s guest is an example of the innovative work being done by younger lawyers intent on addressing the needs of clients who cannot afford full representation, but who both need and want legal assistance. Renatta Austin operates her legal practice out of a storefront office in Eglinton West, spending most of her time on family and criminal matters. Working with clients with limited resources, she offers unbundled legal services with a collaborative and coaching approach. Her website states that: “We support access to justice for low and moderate income clients by offering reasonable fees, accepting legal aid certificates and assisting self-represented litigants.” In other news: criticism over judicial vacancies, delays in cases across Canada, and NSRLP's recent blog post discusses the "othering" of SRLs, and discrimination in the justice system. Visit our website for more on this episode: https://representingyourselfcanada.com/my-lawyer-my-partner/ Jumping Off the Ivory Tower is produced and hosted by Julie Macfarlane and Dayna Cornwall; production and editing by Brauntë Petric; Other News produced and hosted by Ali Tejani; promotion by Moya McAlister and Ali Tejani.
