The High Court of Justice has instructed the IDF to begin drafting ultra-Orthodox men. Dr. Shuki Friedman, vice president of the Jewish People Policy Institute and professor of law at the Peres academic center, said that at least 5,000 are expected to join the army this year, but that is a fraction of the 66,000 eligible for service in the ultra-Orthodox community. But, he said, they would not participate without an enforcement of the law. He told reporter Arieh O’Sullivan that the debate over the draft exemption of haredi youth from military service was dramatically changed since the war against Hamas broke out. (photo: Flash90)
