Ecclesiastes 5:1-7 NLT

Premise

⁃ The Lord our God has a track record of keeping every promise and fulfilling every vow He has made. This proven evidence gives us hope to keep faith alive. The question is…..how does heaven respond when we make a vow?

Confession: Your Word is constantly in my mouth. Your Word is constantly on my mind. I am disciplined concerning Your Word and I make every effort to do everything that is written in it. I am constantly learning from Your Word. The more I know, the more I do. My learning turns in to living. Because of that, Your Word teaches me that I am literally making my way prosperous and that I will receive good success!

Scriptural Insight

1. Before speaking ESPECIALLY in the house of God it is imperative to listen, hear, and understand before presenting something to our Holy God. When holy fear is the focus, words become few and strategic all while knowing God is listening and will have an expectation of what was said.

“As you enter the house of God, keep your ears open and your mouth shut. It is evil to make mindless offerings to God.”

Ecclesiastes 5:1 NLT

2. Talk less, listen more.

“Don’t make rash promises, and don’t be hasty in bringing matters before God. After all, God is in heaven, and you are here on earth. So let your words be few.”

Ecclesiastes 5:2 NLT

3. Busy isn’t the same as productive and much talk isn’t the same as wisdom.

“Too much activity gives you restless dreams; too many words make you a fool.” Ecclesiastes 5:3 NLT

4. Follow through with every promise so that God as well as heaven and earth don’t consider you foolish.

“When you make a promise to God, don’t delay in following through, for God takes no pleasure in fools. Keep all the promises you make to him.”

Ecclesiastes 5:4 NLT

5. Being quiet is free, talking to much can get expensive. How much are you willing to pay?

“It is better to say nothing than to make a promise and not keep it.”

Ecclesiastes 5:5 NLT

6. Careless speech, empty promises, and dead vows all lead to missing the mark. Reneging to your priest invokes the anger of God and presents the chance of losing everything.

“Don’t let your mouth make you sin. And don’t defend yourself by telling the Temple messenger that the promise you made was a mistake. That would make God angry, and he might wipe out everything you have achieved.”

Ecclesiastes 5:6 NLT

7. Holy Fear guards the tongue ensuring that precious and expensive words don’t go to waste. Without it, words lose its value and creates now advantage for you in this life.

“Talk is cheap, like daydreams and other useless activities. Fear God instead.” Ecclesiastes 5:7 NLT
