This week, Karen and Maggie are still not at Rhinebeck. One year, dammit! Instead we’re just knitting on our projects at home, boo. Maggie’s working on a birthday gift cowl that is certainly not going to end up with its intended recipient by their birthday, and managed to resist the whackadoodle enabling at knit night to choose a Hobbitalong pattern that she’s more likely to finish by the deadline than, say, a fingering weigh cardigan with an eyelet dragon on it. Karen, meanwhile, has been chugging along on her Hobbitalong project, but might be ripping it back a bit (spoiler alert: try all of it) as the shawl isn’t using enough of the colour shifting yarn. She’s also worked on the Weeping Angel socks as she finally saw the related Doctor Who episode and wasn’t sleeping after that anyway. Oh and there might have been a yarn purchase, but it’s super-duper special yarn so it doesn’t count.

In Geek Squee, a certain British actor with a rather attractive voice did an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit, and there was much fandom freaking out. Not helped by his basically challenging fandom to create art of himself, Tom Hiddleston and Matt Smith in a compromising position. If that wasn’t bad enough for our hormones, we found footage of Tom Hiddleston dancing at a press event in South Korea. Why? Why must you be so perfect, Hiddleston? There’s also some speculation about what other fictional characters could be Time Lords, the discovery of a tomb of an Etruscan warrior princess, some demographic data on new female comic book readers, a cool new documentary about the history of superhero comics, and speculation Marvel is putting together more tv shows. Oh and Sleepy Hollow is a thing we really need to catch up on.

In Cravings, Covets and Crushes, the Firefly board game is now a thing, OMG WE WANT IT. We also really want the Jonium shawl by Tiziana Sammuri, and a lot of shawls by Lucy Hague because DAMN.

The Hobbitalong Part 2: The Desolation of Swatch has begun! There’s no required pattern or yarn, just the goal of completing a project of your choice before The Hobbit Part 2: The Desolation of Smaug opens in theatres on December 13th. Feel free to post progress and pictures here on the blog, or chat about your projects in the thread over on the Ravelry group!
