För att hindra det kommunistiskt styrda Östberlins medborgare från intryck och utbud från det kapitalistiska Västtyskland och Västberlin byggdes en hög och bred mur runt hela Östberlin. En sinnebild för "det kalla kriget", som man brukar benämna spänningarna efter andra världskriget.
