Lawyers for the Poconos man accused of killing four Idaho college students in 2022 could argue that he was framed. That's according to prosecutors who claim in court documents that the defense plans to say someone else planted a knife sheath with Bryan Kohberger's DNA at the crime scene. Investigators ran that DNA through a genealogy database and got a partial match for Kohberger's uncle. Defense lawyers tried to get the DNA evidence thrown out last month, but the judge denied that. Douglas Penglase, a 37-year-old man from Hatboro, Montgomery County, is accused of spreading child sex abuse materials online. In May 2023, the social media platform Kik reported a user to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, alleging the transmission of child sex abuse materials on its app. The organization flagged 50 files for depictions of adults engaging in sexual activity with 8- to 12-year-old girls. Law enforcement then searched the contents of that Kik account and found nearly 300 files and more than 1,100 messages to other Kik users. The criminal complaint alleges that Penglase was one of the users who chatted with the original user, and officials said they shared nine videos apiece. A law enforcement search of Penglase’s account allegedly revealed almost 800 files containing child sex abuse materials. Penglase made his initial appearance in court on Tuesday.
