Manage episode 426614739 series 3245582
Former Trump White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon is beginning a four-month sentence in federal prison today for his conviction on two counts of criminal contempt of Congress for not complying with subpoenas issued by the now-defunct House Select Committee that investigated the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Bannon refused to sit for a deposition with investigators, and he also refused to provide documents related to his involvement in efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
Heading into the low-security prison outside Danbury, Connecticut, on Monday, Bannon proclaimed he is proud to serve his time if it means standing up to the Biden administration.
Bannon attempted to avoid reporting to prison while challenging his conviction before the federal appeals court in Washington, D.C., but was denied by the Supreme Court.
