It's a sad day for baseball fans around the world. Willie Mays, the 'Say Hey Kid,' has died at the age of 93. His old team the San Francisco Giants and his family jointly announced his death Tuesday night.

He played one year in the Negro Leagues in 1948 at the age of 17, then played in the Majors from 1951 to 1973.

His most famous play is often referred to as just "The Catch" and is considered by many as one of the greatest plays of all time. It happened in the 1954 World Series when he sprinted back in center field to make an over-the-shoulder catch that prevented Cleveland from taking the lead.

After Tuesday's Phillies win, Bryce Harper called Mays one of the greatest players of all time.

Baseball's all-time home run leader Barry Bonds is also Mays' godson. Bonds posted on Instagram saying, quote, "I have no words to describe what you mean to me — you helped shape me to be who I am today. Thank you for being my Godfather and always being there."
