Towing companies in Philly will soon be required to show proof of illegally parked cars

Starting in September, if your car gets towed in Philly, the tow truck company must take photos proving you were parked illegally.

Gov. Josh Shapiro signed a bill that requires tow truck drivers to take pictures of your license plate and the signs that show you weren't supposed to park or stop there. They're required to provide those pictures to you -- for free -- when you get your vehicle.

Philly-area state representatives say the new requirement will make it easier for vehicle owners and courts to determine if a vehicle was rightfully towed.
