The Bible teaches that faith is the key to discovering eternal life, pleasing God, and living out the Christian life. But while “faith alone” is how we become a Christian, true faith is never alone— it is always accompanied by resultant good works. While faith is the exclusive “root” of gaining salvation and eternal life, “good works” are the genuine “fruit” of salvation and eternal life. It is this balance between faith and good works that drives the half-brother of Jesus Christ, James, to write the New testament epistle that bears his name. In it he addresses practical aspects of a “faith that works” in key areas of life like trials, temptations, integrity, relationships, good works, our words, conflict, planning for the future, wealth, patience and problems. If you need to improve the way your faith works in these and other key areas of life, James will provide the wisdom to do so.
