“Football will be a sport where people flourish in a supportive community, where fairness is openly and transparently practised and enforced for the good of all.”
Such is the vision of football’s equality and inclusion organisation, Kick It Out.
Here at Wigan Athletic, we are Together in the fight against racism and against all forms of discrimination and intolerance.
This weekend at our game against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, we will take the time to promote our message of Equality, Diversity and Respect, alongside the great work carried out by Kick It Out.
As part of our work in the local community and wider football family, Ashley Houghton caught up with Kick It Out’s Head of Development Troy Townsend following a workshop with the first team players at Euxton on Tuesday afternoon.
Away from the training centre, captain Samy Morsy has also been promoting our inclusion work. The skipper paid a visit to Wigan Youth Zone on Monday evening to take part in a Premier League Kicks session with youngsters from Wigan Mosque. A practicing Muslim himself, Samy was delighted to be invited down to the facility by Wigan Athletic Community Trust where he met, amongst a number of participants, Aihim and Emad Sawesi who also spoke for this episode.
Lisa Nandy MP attended the session at the Youth Zone to show her continued support to the life-enhancing work of the Community Trust.
And last, but not least... Nick Taylor caught up with midfielder Joe Williams to see how the former Everton man has been settling in at Latics...
