She holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Texas in San Antonio, a master's degree in curriculum and instruction with a focus in leadership from Texas A&M International University, and a doctorate in learning and organizational change from Baylor University. Alma has been recognized for her transformative contributions to education, including garnishing a Blue Ribbon School designation, implementing the Teacher Incentive Allotment, launching a Newcomer Academy, designing mentoring programs, and developing K-12 educational leaders.
