Dr. John Martinez Jr. has served as a teacher, college advisor, assistant principal, and principal. For the past 16 years, he has been an advocate of the STEM initiative, serving as the campus principal of STEM-designated schools in Abilene Independent School District and Lubbock Independent School District in Texas. Prior to becoming an educator, John served for four years in the U.S. Air Force as a C-130 loadmaster stationed at Dyess AFB in Abilene, Texas. He received his bachelor’s degree in multidisciplinary studies from McMurry University, his master’s degree in school leadership from Angelo State University, and his doctoral degree in educational leadership from Texas Tech University.
John has been married to Gina Martinez for 31 years, and together they have four children. Gina is also an educator. Their oldest son, Houston, is a 2018 graduate from Princeton University. Their second son, Isaiah, is a 2022 graduate from Yale University. Their daughter, Blaise, is a senior at Lubbock High School, and their youngest son, Rocco, is an eighth grader at Hutchinson Middle School.
