In the early morning hours of December 13, 2022 a heavily armed Cherokee County NC Sheriff's SWAT team arrived that the trailer home of Jason Kloepfer and Alison Mahler, and began shouting orders at the couple sleeping inside. Awakened, Kloepfer and Mahler stumbled to the door of their trailer, and opened to shouted commands. Quickly, however, numerous shots were fired by officers, striking Kloepfer to the floor of his trailer.
Shortly after the shooting the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office released a statement claiming that Kloepfer had "engaged in a verbal altercation with officers and emerged from a caper trailer and confronted officers. They charged Kloepfer with communicating threats and resisting, obstruction, and delay and indicated additional charges may follow.
Yesterday, however, Kloepfer released video footage taken by a camera inside his trailer. That video footage appears to show Kloepfer acting in a cooperative and compliant manner with the officers outside his trailer.
