You are Designated for a Designed Purpose! YOUR Role Matters!
Hi LOV,
Do you ever find yourself comparing where you are with the station of others? When you read or hear about someone achieving amazing feats with very little effort at a much younger age than you, do you feel a bit "less than?" Does the "look where he is versus where I am" mindset set in during those moments? In this culture of comparison, it is easy to belittle our current situations or callings when we enter a room where others seem to be killing it and making everyone else feel like slackers because they may not have the titles, the degrees, the positions, or the following. I want to remind you of something - YOUR role matters. Just because you may not hold a high ranking office or you may not have the opportunity to write a book yet, this does not mean that you are less important than anyone else on this Earth. God designated a purpose for each of us. For some, this may mean working in the board room. For others, it may mean working on the frontlines. For many, it means being a stay at home dad. For others, it may mean gaining more education and degrees to help with the climb up the corporate ladder. Every role matters.
One example of how true this is comes from my time working in healthcare during the COVID pandemic. As a clinician of 30+ years, I often heard that clinicians were the most important people in the hospital setting. Everyone else is "just ancillary staff." While clinicians are important, I do not believe that one role is more valuable than another. We are all parts that have unique purpose and functions, yet we are not whole without each element being present. We work best when we work together. Lacking one part quickly reveals how important that part is to our success. For example, when I had to remove my management hat to help organize and push meal carts up to nursing units to ensure patients were able to get certain meds immediately before eating, it made my team realize how important the role of those in dietary services is to the hospital organization. When clinicians had to help clean patient rooms because environmental services was short staffed during the pandemic, it showed us how relevant those team members were to our ability to care for patients. The examples could continue for hours. Each role is important. Don't relegate yours to the "but I'm only a..." mentality and don't allow others to do so.
Regardless of where your purpose is and what you are designated to accomplish, know that we all need one another - in business, communities, and our personal circles. Your role matters! You are important. Don't belittle your worth by comparing yourself to another. As one of my favorite ministers says, "You were born an original - don't die a copy!" - Pastor Jeremy Foster
Embrace who you are and know that YOU matter!
Remember to live for purpose, in purpose, on purpose, and with purpose!
