Episode 8 ::

This episode discusses the psychology behind the Gestalt Laws/Principles and extends them to instructional design.

  • Why you don’t remember the face of everyone who dances behind Hrithik Roshan or Katrina Kaif?
  • Why don’t you remember the details of every object on your desk, but despite the clutter you remember the exact spot where you would find your favorite pen?
  • Why the man and the woman who were sitting on that bench silently, appear to be a couple?
  • Why you enjoy seeing videos of performances that appear perfect?
  • Why can’t you sleep when you are trying to find out why something happened or why do you keep seeing a triangle when three sticks are set up so that their ends touch?

And…what does it all have to do with design, and more specifically with instructional design?

In this episode the following five Gestalt Principles are covered in depth.

  1. The Law of Figure and Ground
  2. The Law of Pragnanz
  3. The Law of Proximity
  4. The Law of Good Continuation
  5. The Law of Closure
