This week Will & Ell interview a titan of German Hockey, legendary coach, Markus Weise. At the London Olympics in 2012 and in 2008 in Beijing Markus won the Gold Medal with the German Men’s National Team. In 2004 in Athens he also won the Gold Medal with the German Women’s National Field Hockey Team thus becoming the first coach in field hockey history to win an Olympic Gold medal in both the Men’s and Women’s competitions. Having successfully qualifying with the men's team for Rio 2016, Markus left hockey in 2015 to serves as head of concept development for DFB football academy.
As a club coach in the German Bundesliga (1st Division) he was the head coach for many years with TSV Mannheim. He was awarded coach of the Year in 2011 by the German Olympic Sports Association. In 2011 and 2013 he became European Champion with the Men’s Field Hockey Team and 2 x World and European Champion with the Men’s Indoor Hockey Team.
