Health Tips to Survive Back to School with Gina Roof

Today’s episode focuses on surviving back to school stress and the frenzy of leaving the relaxed summer days behind and replacing them with the structure that a new school year brings. Gina Roof, host of Simply Balanced with Gina, offers us a health coach's perspective on getting prepared - both mentally & physically for the busy days ahead. Together, we hope to “start strong” this school year and dance our way into a new season with joy and grace.   • Take a few days to go over admin work: papers, emails, schedules

  • Write things out, get them on paper and out of your head

  • Lean on and communicate with your support system

  • “It’s our thoughts that are the most common driver of our stress.” -GR

  • Don't’ be afraid to ask for help

  • Declutter, organize ahead of the new season - it’s a great time to schedule a donation

  • Involve your kids/spouse in the process - make it a team effort

  • Clean and stock fridge, freezer & pantry

  • Meal Plan!

  • Take care of yourself, because “If your mental state is not in a good place and your nervous system is not calm, then you know everything is secondary. -GR

  • Minimize process foods as much as possible

  • Prioritize Rest!

  • Mentally check in with yourself regularly

  • Gina’s non-negotiable is: meal planning and posting it on a menu board in her kitchen

  • Do as much simple ingredient prep ahead of time to make the week flow smoother.

  • Let the kids have a say in what they eat!

  • Roll back bedtime in the week ahead of school to help kids fall asleep earlier when the need to.

  • Have realistic expectations. Back-to-school is a big transition and it’s expected that there will be some hiccups along the way. That’s okay, anticipate them and think about how you will react.

  • Give your kids jobs that they are consistently responsible for each day.

  • Find a way to simplify things as much as possible!
