Betsy Nilan is the President of The Get in Touch Foundation. She has been involved with The Get in Touch Foundation for most of her life. When she was 13 years old, the Founder and her mother, Mary Ann Wasil was diagnosed with breast cancer and started Get In Touch to provide others with the knowledge to be informed about breast health. Over the years, Betsy assisted and volunteered her time to further the organization’s mission. She helped plan and execute fundraising events across the country, worked with Get In Touch Youth Ambassadors, and worked as Operations Coordinator in the office. In February of 2016, she stepped up as Acting President and two months later stepped up as President after her mother passed away. Betsy holds a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from the University of Virginia, and has a Master’s degree in Women’s Studies from Southern Connecticut State University. Her thesis was entitled “Empowerment Through Decision-Making: Patriarchal Society’s Effect on Women with the BRCA1 and BRCA2 Genetic Mutation.” It focused on the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genetic mutation, also known as the breast cancer gene and how society reacted to women testing positive.
