We interview violinist, composer, arranger, and teacher, Melanie Joy Alvey, as we continue to feature the artists performing for the St. Philip Concert in the Courtyard series. Melanie expands her classical training into various American styles. Her approach to performance and composition was formed during her studies at Belmont University with classical violinist Elisabeth Small, electric violinist Tracy Silverman, country/western swing icon Buddy Spicher, and jazz violinist Billy Contreras. There, she completed both her Undergraduate Degree and Masters Degree in Commercial Performance. Alvey shares her approach to fostering music in her children and the compositions inspired by them.
