Alaska’s upcoming primary elections will be the first under a new open primary system, allowing voters to choose any candidate regardless of party. Early and absentee voting starts August 5, with the final results expected by September 1.

Governor Mike Dunleavy vetoed five bills passed after the legislative session’s midnight deadline, citing constitutional concerns—the vetoed bills addressed issues ranging from cruise ship docking to alcohol service and abandoned boats.

Federal officials have recommended that Alaska receive $78.9 million for projects to better prepare coastal communities for climate change.

Governor Mike Dunleavy signed three important energy bills on Wednesday at the Alaska Energy Authority office in Anchorage to tackle upcoming energy shortages and delivery issues in Alaska's most populated areas.

With Suicide Basin beginning to overtop, Mendenhall River levels may rise. Residents near the river are advised to prepare for possible flooding. Enhanced monitoring since 2023 aims to provide timely warnings.
