Resilient SF Giants Triumph, But LaMonte Wade Jr. Suffers Hamstring Injury

LaMonte Wade Jr. has been one of the best hitters in baseball this year, period. Among hitters with at least 160 plate appearances, Wade's .470 OBP is best in the sport by a mile, and his 19.9% walk rate also ranks first. But the San Francisco Giants will be without Wade for an unknown amount of time after he came up limping legging out a double in Monday's resilient win over the Phillies.

That the SF Giants beat the Phillies is no small accomplishment. The Giants were coming off an extremely tough loss, blowing a two-run ninth-inning lead against the Mets the previous day. The SF Giants then flew all the way across the country that evening, then played a day game on account of the holiday. And oh by the way, Philadelphia swept the Giants in a four-game series earlier this year and has the best record in baseball.

In other news, Marco Luciano seems to have lost his grip on the starting shortstop role in Nick Ahmed's absence. Brett Wisely has been playing very well, and Luciano made several critical errors on the Giants' recent road trip. The SF Giants were able to overcome those errors for the most part, but it backs up what scouts have long believed: that Luciano may need to move off of the position in order to thrive in the majors.
