SF Giants DFA Nick Ahmed as Deserving Young Players Set to See More Opportunities

Two days after trading Austin Slater, the San Francisco Giants parted ways with another veteran. Nick Ahmed was designated for assignment today, clearing the way for Brett Wisely and Tyler Fitzgerald to hold down the shortstop position. The SF Giants also have Marco Luciano and Casey Schmitt as shortstop options on the 40-man roster. The Giants are clearly making a concerted effort to give more playing time to deserving young players, but these moves are also borne out of needing to clear 40-man spots for incoming players coming off the 60-day IL.
