SF Giants' Dramatic Walk-Off Sets Stage for Big Series Win vs. Astros

The San Francisco Giants have now won back-to-back series against Texas teams that are under-performing but dangerous. The Giants won two out of three against the defending World Series Champion Texas Rangers, and they followed it up with a really nice home series win against the Houston Astros, who are always dangerous despite their subpar record.

The SF Giants set the tone for the whole series with a dramatic, inspiring comeback win in the opener. The Giants fell behind by two runs in the top of the 10th, only to answer with three runs of their own in the bottom of the frame. Austin Slater got the winning hit, narrowly missing a grand slam which would've been his first extra-base hit of the season. Slater got the game-winner against a right-handed pitcher. It was a big moment for a player who's struggled or been injured all season. Slater is also a player who's clearly turning things around, as he collected three more hits today in the series finale.

Another player who's doing really good things is Brett Wisely. Wisely has changed his stance in the offseason, and the results speak for themselves. He's collecting hits on a regular basis, and has made huge strides from last year to this year in his in-zone contact rate, to the point where he is almost never swinging and missing at strikes anymore (in-zone contact rate of 95+% coming into today compared to a rate in the mid-70s last year). Hopefully the 25-year-old's breakout is for real, as Wisely is only 25 years old and the Giants have a history of finding diamonds in the rough. Wisely has brought stability to a position of need, doing a good job defensively at shortstop in the absence of Nick Ahmed and Marco Luciano.
