The San Francisco Giants were riding high, and it looked like they were on their way to their fifth straight victory. The Giants took a 6-2 lead into the bottom of the ninth, and that's where the nightmare began. Luke Jackson got the first hitter out, but then things unraveled for him and eventually SF Giants closer Camilo Doval. The Giants survived to see extras, but did not score in the 10th and Pittsburgh won it on on pitch in the bottom of the inning.

Meanwhile, there's good news on the injury front, with Patrick Bailey and Blake Snell being activated off the injured list. Those two are among the best players on the Giants, and over time their presence should add up to more wins. Tuesday's loss was a freak incident that happens once or twice over the course of a 162-game season.

The Giants' overall stats and performance thus far is analyzed as we prepare for them to play game No. 50. By all rights, they should've been going for a 25-25 record, which would put them firmly in the playoff hunt as the season is still in its relatively early stages. But the stunning loss set the SF Giants back and they're now back to three games under .500 instead of one. There's no getting around it: last night's loss was painful and definitely stands out as the worst of 2024.
