SF Giants Win Sixth Straight Series Opener as Underrated Offense, Kyle Harrison Step Up

The San Francisco Giants' last two series have been defined by disappointment, mostly because they won the first game only to lose the next two both times. Last night against the Minnesota Twins, the Giants won their sixth straight series opener, with the Giants able to secure series wins four times despite the two recent letdowns. Can the Giants buck the recent trend and win this series against a good Twins team? Or will the disappointment deepen with another tough series loss?

The SF Giants' offense certainly can't be blamed for the fact that the team is three games under .500 with two games to go before the All-Star break. The Giants are nearly Top 10 in wRC+ (104), whereas they're in the bottom five or so in team ERA. The Giants' offense was on display last night, as they pushed across seven runs despite the Twins having one of their top arms on the mound.

Another key to the victory, and indeed a key to the season right now, was Kyle Harrison. Harrison missed almost a month with an ankle sprain, and the Giants were left scrambling for arms as they only had two starters for a while, with Jordan Hicks, who seems to be running on fumes right now, one of them. Harrison's return to the rotation didn't go well in his first outing, as he was not sharp against the Guardians. But last night, Harrison allowed just one run as he pitched into the sixth inning, which was a huge boon to a beat up San Francisco Giants pitching staff.
