Jake Burger continued his historic homer run streak, hitting his 12th dinger in 23 games since the MLB all-star break, and Jesus Sanchez added a two-run shot to lead the Miami Marlins past the San Diego Padres 7-6, snapping their three-game losing streak, with all three losses coming in extra innings.

----- 'LIVE' Instant Reaction from Jim "Gries" Grieshaber -----

Burger homered for the third straight game, surpassing Giancarlo Stanton for the fastest in club history. Stanton did it during his 59-homer, NL MVP season in 2017.

The loss ended the Padres’ seven-game win streak, but it wouldn't come easy.

Padres second baseman Ha-Seong Kim hit what everyone thought was a game-tying home run off Andrew Nardi in the with two outs in the ninth inning. A closer look revealed that the ball hit the padding on the wall, then hit Kyle Stowers’ glove and went over. The call was reversed to a ground-rule double, and the Marlins held on.

George Soriano relieved Nardi and struck out Luis Campusano for his first save as a Marlin.

Marlins starter Max Meyer (3-2) allowed three runs on seven hits in a career-high 6 1/3 innings, striking out four.

Sánchez’s two-run shot in the seventh extended Miami’s lead before pinch-hitter Donovan Solano’s two-run drive off Nardi in the eighth got the Padres to within one.

Luis Arraez had three hits for the Padres. He went 7 for 15 in the series against the Marlins, who traded him to San Diego in May.

Run-scoring singles by Jonah Bride and Otto López in the first put Miami ahead 2-0, with two San Diego errors playing a big factor.

The Padres chipped away with RBI groundouts from Peralta in the fifth and Jurickson Prufar and Jake Cronenworth in the sixth.

Both benches cleared at the end of the fourth after Cronenworth’s hard slide into Miami second baseman Otto López at the bag to break up a double play. No punches were thrown.

The Marlins are off tomorrow. They are headed to Philadelphia for a two-game series against the Phillies starting Tuesday. Valente Bellozo, (2-1, 3.05) who has been great lately, will start for Miami. The Phillies will counter with Tyler Phillips. (4-1. 2.83)

We will be here 'LIVE' right after the game with your Locked On Marlins POSTCAST, hosted by Jim "GRIES" Grieshaber.
