Masyn Winn hit a two-run home run in the top of the 12th inning, and Dylan Carlson threw out Nick Gordon- the potential tying run- at the plate in the bottom half, to lead the St. Louis Cardinals past the Miami Marlins, 7-6 in twelve innings.

Bryan De La Cruz smashed a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, tying the game at four, and setting up.

Ivan Herrera’s two-run triple off Calvin Faucher had broken a 1-1 tie in the top of the eighth inning, and the Cards added one more run from there to make it 4-1.

Both teams’ bullpens wasted great outings from their starting pitchers.

Cards’ starter Sonny Gray went 7 2/3 strong innings – the longest start of the season for the Cardinals this season- allowing just one run on five hits, striking out four and walking just two.

Miami’s Braxton Garrett pitched six innings, also allowing just one run on five hits. The lefty struck out six hitters.

The Marlins (23-49) and Cardinals (36-35) play the middle game of their three-game series tomorrow at Loan Depot Park.

Roddery Munoz (1-2) will start for Miami. Lance Lynn (2-3) will pitch for St. Louis. First pitch is set for pm.
