The Red Sox scored 8 runs in the 2nd inning and the first 10 outs recorded by starting pitcher Brayan Bello were via the strikeout Tuesday night in a series-opening 12-9 win over the Oakland A's at Fenway Park. Bello gave up 2 runs in the first inning, but also struck out 3 in his first inning of work.

The A's lead was short-lived. Jarren Duran led off the home first with a double and he scored on an RBI single by David Hamilton. Tyler O'Neill's double put runners at 2nd & 3rd and both runners scored on a 2-run single by Rafael Devers. Joey Estes retired the next 3 batters and Devers was stranded at 2nd-base. Bello again struck out 3 in the 2nd inning, but he did end up stranding 2 runners in scoring position.

Dominic Smith led off the home second with a walk and scored from first-base on a triple down the right-field line off the bat of Ceddanne Rafaela. Duran brought Rafaela in from 3rd-base with a sacrifice fly and that made it 5-2. Sox were far from done. O'Neill was hit by a pitch with two outs to extend the inning and the Red Sox added on with 6 more runs all with 2 outs. Devers had an RBI double and later in the inning Wilyer Abreu broke out of an 0-for-16 slump with a 3-run Home Run. Smith followed with a solo Home Run and the Sox led, 11-2, after the first 2 innings.

Bello struck out the side in order on 13 pitches in the 3rd inning. He recorded 2 more strikeouts in the 4th to give him 11 through the first 4 innings. He allowed a single and got an inning-ending double play in the 5th. He allowed a 3-run Home Run in the 6th inning with 1 out. Bello's line- 5.1 IP. 9 Hits. 5 R. 5 ER. 2 BB. 11 K's (career-high) and 1 Home Run allowed.

Trey Wingenter made his Red Sox debut in the 9th inning. The 30-year-old gave up a 3-run Home Run to Zack Gelof in the 9th but managed to get the final out.

With Tuesday night's win over the A's, the Red Sox are a season-high 10 games over .500. The series continues Wednesday night at Fenway. Nick Pivetta goes for the Red Sox and JP Sears makes the start for Oakland.
