Margrethe Odgaard began her colour diaries more than 10 years ago in order to record her surroundings and to “see more specifically.” During an artist residency in New York City Odgaard noted the colours of the city, among others the iconic Brooklyn Bridge. “I don’t see the bridge, I don’t see the colours and the shape,” Odgaard says of the way we habitually look at the objects around us: “I just see the idea of the bridge.” Looking closely, “with naked eyes,” allows the designer to experience the intricacies and subtle nuances of the world we live in. Margrethe Odgaard (b. 1978) is a Danish designer. She has collaborated with brands such as Muuto, HAY and Georg Jensen and now runs her own design studio in Copenhagen, Denmark. Odgaard is part of the duo Included Middle together with furniture designer Chris L. Halstrøm. In 2016 she received the Torsten och Wanja Söderbergs Prize, one of the most prestigious design awards in the world. Margrethe Odgaard was interviewed by Kasper Bech Dyg at her studio in Copenhagen, Denmark in February 2016.
