Episode 164 - Dare To Fly: Simple Lessons in Never Giving Up with Martha McSally

Make It Happen with Will Polston is a weekly podcast that consists of a combination of episodes with Mindset Strategist Will Polston and episodes with Will's guests from around the world providing you with insights on how you can transform your excuses into results to benefit yourself, your family, your friends, your community, society, humanity and the universe, what he calls - The Ripple Effect.

Colonel Martha McSally is America's 1st woman to command a fighter squadron and a combat-proven leader, pioneer, world-renowned inspirational speaker, and celebrated author.

After a 26-year military career, she is now bringing her lessons from combat to inspire and equip you and your team to soar through fear and adversity so you can thrive and elevate to peak performance. Martha has lived a life of overcoming trauma, barriers, and fear to achieve history-making extraordinary feats.

She is now on a mission to teach you how to do the same by boldly declaring and living "I AM..."

You can't elevate in life or business if you avoid what's held you back in the past.

Instead of defining yourself by what you've experienced, what others want, how you feel, or what you're afraid of, Martha's process is built around connecting with who you truly are to grow and succeed in every area of your life.

Despite losing her dad at the age of 12 and surviving sexual abuse and assault, she persevered to become the 1st woman in U.S. history to fly an AF fighter jet in combat & command a fighter squadron in combat.

Along her journey, she conquered significant internal and external obstacles including U.S. law prohibiting women from flying combat jets.

She persevered, held onto her dreams, refused to give up, and shattered glass ceilings because she learned to stand by who she is instead of defining herself by what she's been through, others' opinions, or seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

Through humour, transparency, emotional connection, and powerful storytelling, Martha brings you into the cockpit and behind the scenes of high-stakes leadership moments in American history, while capturing hearts along the way, all while imparting actionable takeaways that can immediately empower you and your team.

In this episode, Will has Colonel Martha as his guest and they talk about:

  • Her story on how and why she became a fighter pilot
  • How she overcame her trauma and grief through self-determination
  • The benefits of declaring your identity through the use of 'I Am..'
  • How fear and being uncomfortable leads to growth
