Episode 128 - The Superpower Of Dyslexia with James Martin

Make It Happen with Will Polston is a weekly podcast that consists of a combination of episodes with Mindset Strategist Will Polston and episodes with Will's guests from around the world providing you with insights on how you can transform your excuses into results to benefit yourself, your family, your friends, your community, society, humanity and the universe, what he calls - The Ripple Effect.

James Martin is a pioneer for dyslexics in business. As a self-made multi-millionaire, with incredible success in a variety of industries, James has forged his way to success despite the odds - and despite being unable to read or write!

Like many dyslexics, James’ school experience was fraught with failure and frustration. Labelled as a “naughty child” and unable to grasp even the basics of literacy, he was failed by the school system, leaving at 15 with no qualifications and no prospects for the future.

But James had something they hadn’t counted on: an entrepreneurial spark.

It didn’t matter that he couldn’t read and write, he had a strong drive to succeed and an unusual ability to look at things from a different angle. His dyslexia didn’t just give him struggles, it give him strengths too.

Half a century on, James has created a multi-million-pound business empire and left a trail of success behind him. From a 7 figure agricultural consultancy business to various large-scale property development projects and leisure and hospitality businesses.

James believes that dyslexia doesn’t have to hold you back and your success doesn’t come down to your ability to read and write.

Dyslexics have their own strengths, their own incredible ways of viewing things that others can’t.

An unseen superpower.

Through his mentoring and consulting, James is paving the way for other dyslexics in business. Working with dyslexics, the parents of dyslexic children and corporations, James is creating awareness of the benefits of dyslexic thinking in business and inspiring creative change for a new, more diverse future for industry and commerce.

In this episode, Will has James as his guest and they talk about:

  • What is Dyslexia and what are the types of Dyslexia?
  • How he learns with Dyslexia
  • Modern education and how it affects Dyslexic children
  • What it’s like growing up and living with Dyslexia
  • How to see Dyslexia as a superpower
